Devin Castle Bratislava Slovakia

Rising defiantly out of a rocky hill at a strategic location overlooking the confluence of the Danube and the Morava Rivers near Bratislava, Devin Castle has been a symbol of Slovak nationalism for more than 1,000 years. The first traces of fortification date from Roman times. By the 10th century, the Great Moravian Empire strengthened the walled settlement and used it as a base for fighting against Frankish overlords. In the 13th c., Devin was held by Hungarian nobles, who added a palace in the 15th c. Napoleon’s troops laid waste to Devin in 1809. Devin Castles was the scene of several events connected with the 19th c. Slovak National Revival and an insurrection against the Hapsburg Empire.

No, it was correct. I can also open discussion about origin of local names in HU, but I think that it would be counterproductive.

What makes me angry? E.g. I am from Trenčín. I like that town. But I am absolutely sure that if I search for “Trencin castle” there are some stupid HU comments. HU never lived there (maybe except nobility) and also all local names are Slovak (Zablatie, Zlatovce, Orechove, Inovec…)

    So.. what’s your problem?

The ignorance and stupidity of hungarian nationalists is simply unbelievable. Their ancestors had to have magical powers, if they could build castles before physically appearing in the territory.

  6. Deveny=Devin. Deva …
Deveny=Devin. Deva is common slavic word (girl). Founded in 8th century or earlier. Hardly by Hungarians.

Szepes=Spis. Slovak region after 12th century colonized by Germans. Cenzus from 1869 – Hungarian population = 6%.

Krasznahorka=Krásna hôrka. Meaning “beautifull mountain”. Can you show me Hungarian etymology, pls?

Trencsen=Trencin. Probably meaning “castle of Trnka”. Founded in 9th century. Hungarian origin is not possible.

You are just next arrogant HU idiot.

Rudolf Kucera (Chech politologist): The czech and slovak emissary went to the russian Czar. The Czar asked: whats your desire? Benes pointed at Viena- We want it.
The Czar didnt understood that request. Vienna is slavic he said. – Ok let it be, said the Czar. The slovaks and czechs wanted a country with 3 million germans and 1.5 million hungarians despite the chech-slovak population of 5 million! Its the way you robber slovaks did it.You alone deported 2.5 millions.Give Komarno,Sturovo etc back!

    First the Roman …
First the Roman Empire built guard towers. After that it was part of the Great Moravian Empire. The Fulda Manuscript mentions the wooden castle in 864 AD (Dowina). The stone castle as you can see it today, was built by the Hungarians in the 13. century (whether you like it or not) So the Italians could also claim it as their national symbol of pride, as they were there before Hungarians or Slovaks
