Rick Steve’s European Christmas (Norway): Drobak & Oslo

I had previously uploaded Rick Steves’ Oslo portion of his European Christmas, but thought I’d do another video that included Drobak as well. It’s interesting seeing how other countries celebrate the Christmas holidays. In the Oslo portion of the clip, the Norwegian Girls Choir sings Personent Hodie in the Old Aker Church.

    Here in the States …
    Here in the States where I live, we have lots of wonderful people of African descent. However, among them are many who are nothing but hate and stupidity on two legs. Hardly a day passes when it’s reported in the news that “police are looking for a black man that robbed a liquor store … or … a black man raped … or … several blacks assaulted … and on and on it goes.

    If you have any sense there in Norway, you’ll be very careful about letting blacks in ’cause they’ll ruin your culture…

    I know it isnt a race my friend. There is also asian latinos (which Im half of), afro-latinos, etc.

    But when you just say “latino” in general non-latino people will have an idea of what you might look like

    latino isn’t a race …
    latino isn’t a race. there are plenty of very white latinos, some even of scandinavian descent.

    in my country we celebrate festivus instead of Christmas. we like to say festivus for the rest of us. we start off with the airing of grievances and end it with feats of strength as we sit around our aluminium pole.

    Du har aldri gjort …
    Du har aldri gjort noe valg. Du har bare stukket hodet i sanden, du har aldri reflektert over hvorfor det er bra i Norge. Du har bare “fokusert” på det du liker. Du har bare godtatt det barneskolen lærte deg.

    Kommer du deg ut i verden vil du fort se at Norge er på sitt beste helt på det jevne. Og nei, det holder ikke nevne naturen, krig og fred og sånn. Dessverre.

    Bra at ikke alle fokuserer på det som er neagtivt. Jeg har gjort et bra valg med å fokusere på det som er godt med å bo i Norge, noe som du tydeligvis kan lære av.

    True. To experience a traditional Christmas eve celebration you would need to be close family. But visitors could take part in a “julebord” Christmas party, there a lots of them leading up to Christmas. And many host parties between Christmas day and New Year Eve. As an overseas visitor (with some connection to your host obviously) you would certainly be welcome.

    Vi er ikke spesielt …
    Vi er ikke spesielt skjermet mot vold og tyveri. Tjenestemenn og det offentlige er ikke mindre korrupte enn andre steder, selv om det ikke går like mye Marlboro og whisky i Norge og er mer skjult.

    Det er lite som er spesielt bra i Norge. Mye er helt på det jevne. Det eneste vi brillierer på er en naiv tro på at vi er bedre enn absolutt alle andre. Og som nevnt, hadde du vært lenger utenfor døren en Svinesund eller Syden hadde du visst bedre. God jul!

    Han klager sikker …
    Han klager sikker fordi han har hatt anledning til å bo ute. Ta ett eller to år i et annet land, jobb ute en stund, kom tilbake og begynn virkelig å se hvordan Norge og Nordmenn egentlig er.

    Vi er sure mennesker, frekke menneker som vasser i møkkete gater med narkomane, tiggere og prostituerte. Vi har elendig infrastruktur. Vi tjener alle nesten likt, så vitsen med høy utdannelse er minimal. Vi er utrolig selvgode (se f.eks. din egen kommentar).

    Hvorfor suger Norge?
    Norge har det mye bedre enn mange andre land, så skjønner ikke hvorfor du klager. Da må du virklig ha det vondt.
    Jeg er glad i Norge og er stolt over å komme fra her :)

    Haha! Well… Xmas in norway is not that idyllic. Its actually pretty similar to the american xmas (exept the food)

    Im a norwegian myself so trust me XD norge sug hardt! :D

    Please remember that norwegians are reserved people whom do not open the door to every stranger. If you want to experience the norwegian christmas, you must manage to be invited in to a norwegian family’s home. Only then you’re able to experience the true norwegian “jul”.
