Whats the CHEAPEST way to travel Europe?
Im a 20 year old college student living in the states. I was wondering if anyone can fill me in on the cheapest ways to travel Europe? Is there anything that is similar to going with a bunch of people around your age, staying and traveling with them? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Websites?
Are there any programs set up for students to travel Europe cheaply?
I don’t know if this is the cheapest way to travel Europe, but summer Eurail Passes are a popular option among both local as well as international students. If I wasn’t mistaken, it allows you to pay a fix amount of money for a Pass which you can use to travel a number of different European countries by train within a range of certain dates in the summer.
Where is your first arrival point in Europe? If it happens to be Amsterdam, then you can find more information about the Eurail Pass on www.ns.nl; all you have to do is to click the English version of the site and go to the page about international travel.
Another exciting way to travel Europe is to go biking across a few cities, or even countries. It will be time and energy consuming, but if you have travel buddies who have done it before and are familiar with interesting roadpaths, it would be well worth it. All you have to do is to buy a secondhand bike for between €25-€75 as soon as you arrive (In the Netherlands go to a website like www.viavia.nl or www.marktplaats.nl) and advertise it sometime before you leave to make sure that it is sold before you return to the US.
You can also google for backpacker communities and travel plans. I would also look up Lonely Planet and TimeOut Magazine for such info.
Ive asked this question recently … im based in the uk. Some ideas:
-train – you can get multi train tickets
-coach
-car
-push bike/tent (not so good for cities)
-buy a camper van and sell it when you’re done
-buy a boat and sell it when you are done (limmited to coast places)
Here are some good websites

There are two in-expensive tour companies ..That I recommend …Globus and Contiki…A travel agent should be able to hook you up with them. They do, however sometimes stay in hostels. My son likes to travel all over and he seems to like to take no more than a backpack..especially in Europe. So keep your luggage compact. Remember that if you eat in expensive places your costs will go up. Bottom line..is you and only you control you money!
