Planning a Europe Trip cheapest way to Travel around the major cities?
I’m traveling in Europe December 2010-January 2011.
I’ll be heading around France, Amsterdam, Germany, Switzerland and (top half of) Italy.
I was just wondering what the cheapest way to travel between the cities, I thought of buying a Eurail Pass but it’d be around AU$500 just to travel 6 days in 2 months. Is there a cheaper method?
Is plane travel cheaper but more difficult?
Yes, planes will be likely less expensive but a little more difficult.
The best thing to do is price out your flights on the websites for some low-cost airlines:

http://www.airberlin.com
The difficulty involved is not huge, just a bit of an annoyance. First off, trains travel from city-center to city-center, whereas you will need to get transportation to/from the airports, which will also increase the cost. As well, with security, waiting for baggage, and the early check-in times for some flights, a high-speed train is supposed to be faster for any flights less than 3.5 hours in duration. That being said, if money is the priority then these problems will be easily overcome.
Remember as well that if you are traveling by train, Italy is rarely a good investment for a rail pass. The prices of point-to-point tickets are so inexpensive, and the cost of reservation fees on a rail pass can be pretty high, such to the point that a rail pass loses its value in that country. The rest of your destinations usually work out best with a rail pass.
You can price out the cost of individual rail tickets on the website for the rail service of the country from which your trip will be departing. For example, any trips departing from Italy can be priced out at http://www.trenitalia.com
Have a great trip!

This legendary concert is one that every Europe fan probably has in their collection somewhere. Taped in Stockholm in 1986 at the beginning of the band’s huge success with the single of this song, it was also the only professionally-shot full-length concert that featured John Norum before he left the band at the end of that year.
